### Approval workflow

Carta LP Portfolio Analytics supports a flexible four-eyes and six-eyes workflow. This can be left optional or set to mandatory.

When you finish validating a document, you should follow your team's review process.

4-eyes or 6-eyes approval flows are optional by default, but can be made mandatory.

1. On the metric validation screen, click the **Finish** button top right

2. In the dialog, chose ' **Submit for approval**'

3. Select the workflow stage and a reviewer (optional). If you are reviewing, you may also send the document **back for validation** by selecting **‘In progress’** status.

4. If 4-eyes approval is enforced by your system settings then the following rules apply:

   1. The validator user must be a different person from the reviewer/approver

   2. The last user to validate a document is set as the ASSIGNED TO user;

   3. Once the document is moved to PENDING APPROVAL, the assigned user cannot be changed

Workflow stages are:

- In progress

- Pending approval

- Pending second approval

If no additional reviews are required, select the **'Commit metrics to database'** option instead. This will complete the process and submit the extracted data to the database for export.

> Tip: Reviewers can be selected directly from the inbox too.

#### Enforcing 4-eyes review workflows

Go to My organization > _Your tenant name_ \> Settings > Validation workflow to make the validation flow mandatory or optional. You can decide which document types require 4-eyes review workflow and which don't.

You can also activate a strict preparer / checker workflow, whereby the reviewer (checker) user is prevented from making any corrections or changes to a validated document. In this scenario, if a reviewed document needs corrections, the reviewer must return it to the validator (preparer) user first.
